1. Overview

The Journal of Electronics, Electromedical Engineering, and Medical Informatics (JEEEMI) is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access journal that publishes original and high-quality contributions in electronics, biomedical engineering, electromedical systems, and medical informatics. JEEEMI welcomes manuscripts that demonstrate novelty, methodological rigor, technical clarity, reproducibility, and relevance to healthcare-related engineering and informatics. All manuscripts must be submitted through the journal’s online submission system. Authors are required to register as authors and follow all journal policies, manuscript preparation instructions, and ethical requirements before submission. JEEEMI currently accepts Original Research Articles, Short Communications, and Review Articles.

2. Article Types

JEEEMI considers the following categories of manuscripts:

2.1. Original Research Articles

Original Research Articles should report novel and significant findings supported by appropriate methodology, analysis, validation, and discussion.

2.2. Short Communications

Short Communications should present concise but important technical findings, preliminary innovations, or focused methodological advances of clear relevance.

2.3. Review Articles

Review Articles should provide a critical, well-structured, and up-to-date synthesis of a relevant research area. Purely descriptive literature summaries are not suitable.

3. Before You Submit

Before submission, authors should ensure that the manuscript:

  • fits the journal’s aims and scope,
  • has not been published previously and is not under consideration elsewhere,
  • is written in clear academic English,
  • has been prepared using the official JEEEMI manuscript template,
  • complies with the journal’s ethical and reporting requirements,
  • and has been checked carefully for grammar, consistency, citation accuracy, and formatting.

Authors are responsible for the scientific integrity, originality, and accuracy of the submitted work.

4. Submission Files Required

4.1. Main Manuscript File

The manuscript must be submitted in Microsoft Word (.docx) format and prepared using the official JEEEMI template. JEEEMI currently requires submission in Word format and limits the file size to 10 MB.

4.2. Cover Letter

A cover letter is required. It should briefly explain:

  • the title of the manuscript,
  • the main contribution of the work,
  • why the manuscript is suitable for JEEEMI,
  • and a statement that the manuscript is original, not under consideration elsewhere, and approved by all authors.

4.3. Statement of Originality

Authors must submit a signed statement confirming that the manuscript is original, has not been published elsewhere, and is not being considered simultaneously by another journal. JEEEMI currently requires a Statement of Originality as a supplementary file.

4.4. Graphical Abstract

A graphical abstract must be submitted as a supplementary file, following the journal’s graphical abstract instructions. JEEEMI currently requires a graphical abstract during submission.

4.5. Supplementary Material

If applicable, authors may submit supplementary files such as datasets, code, videos, high-resolution figures, appendices, or additional tables. Supplementary files should be clearly labeled and cited in the manuscript where relevant.

5. General Requirements

The minimum manuscript requirements are as follows:

  • The manuscript must be written in English.
  • The main text should normally be at least 10 pages, excluding references.
  • The manuscript must be prepared using the official JEEEMI paper template.
  • References and citations must follow the IEEE numerical citation style (minimum 40).
  • Authors are encouraged to use a reference manager such as Mendeley to ensure consistency. JEEEMI currently recommends Mendeley (Mendeley Cite).
  • Similarity must remain below the journal threshold. JEEEMI currently states that manuscripts must have a similarity score below 20% as determined by plagiarism software.

Failure to meet these basic requirements may result in return before review or desk rejection. JEEEMI’s current guidelines already state that submissions that do not meet the minimum requirements may be rejected.

6. Manuscript Preparation

The manuscript should be organized in the following order:

  1. Title
  2. Author names
  3. Author affiliations
  4. Corresponding author details
  5. Abstract
  6. Keywords
  7. Heading and Sub-heading
  8. Introduction
  9. Materials and Methods
  10. Results
  11. Discussion
  12. Conclusion
  13. Acknowledgment
  14. Declarations
  15. References
  16. Author biographies, if required by the journal template

This structure is based on JEEEMI’s current manuscript guidance, but is revised here into a more complete and internationally standardized form

6.1. Title

The title should be concise, specific, informative, and accurately reflect the content of the paper. It should clearly communicate the topic, approach, and objective of the study. Avoid uncommon abbreviations and vague wording. JEEEMI currently advises that the title should reflect the research aim, method or model, and objective, and should avoid acronyms and abbreviations.

6.2. Authors and Affiliations

List each author’s full name without academic titles. Provide complete affiliations, including department, institution, city, and country. The corresponding author must be clearly identified, with a valid email address.

6.3. ORCID

Authors are encouraged to provide ORCID iDs to improve author identification and indexing quality.

6.4. Abstract

The abstract must be self-contained and must not contain citations. It should present:

  • the background or research problem,
  • the study objective,
  • the method or approach,
  • the principal results,
  • the conclusion,
  • and the main implication of the work.

JEEEMI currently requires an abstract of approximately 250–300 words, for consistency and international readability.

6.5. Keywords

Provide 4 to 6 keywords that reflect the main topics of the manuscript. Keywords should support discoverability and indexing.

6.5. Heading and Sub Heading

To maintain consistency in manuscript organization, authors are allowed to use a maximum of three levels of headings. The heading hierarchy must be formatted as follows:

  • First-level headings: Roman numerals (I, II, III, …)
  • Second-level headings: Capital letters (A, B, C, …)
  • Third-level headings: Arabic numerals (1, 2, 3, …)

Further subdivision beyond the third heading level is not permitted. Authors are encouraged to maintain a clear, concise, and logically organized manuscript structure.

For example:

I. Introduction
II. Materials and Methods
A. Dataset
B. Data Acquisition
 1. Sensor Placement
 2. Signal Recording

6.6. Introduction

The Introduction should provide sufficient background for readers to understand the problem and the study's significance. It should include:

  • the research problem or clinical/technical need,
  • brief but relevant prior work,
  • the limitations of previous studies,
  • the research gap,
  • the study objective,
  • and the contribution or novelty of the work.

JEEEMI’s current guidance already emphasizes background, state of the art, research gap, objective, and contribution; this revised version formalizes those expectations.

6.7. Materials and Methods

The Methods section must be sufficiently detailed to allow the work to be understood and, where possible, reproduced. It should clearly describe:

  • study design,
  • dataset or sample,
  • instruments, devices, or software,
  • data collection procedure,
  • preprocessing,
  • algorithms, models, or analytical techniques,
  • validation strategy,
  • statistical analysis,
  • and ethical approval, if applicable.

JEEEMI’s current guideline states that this section should include the dataset, data collection, processing, and statistical analysis, and that methods should be reproducible.

For AI, machine learning, and data-driven studies, authors should explicitly report:

  • dataset source and size,
  • inclusion or exclusion criteria where relevant,
  • preprocessing and normalization steps,
  • training, validation, and testing strategy,
  • hyperparameters or model configuration,
  • comparison methods or baselines,
  • and performance metrics.

For hardware, instrumentation, and system papers, authors should clearly report:

  • device architecture,
  • sensor specifications,
  • calibration procedure,
  • experimental setup,
  • control strategy,
  • and safety or performance testing.

6.8. Results

The Results section should present the findings clearly and objectively. Results should not merely repeat raw data, but should summarize the key findings in a scientifically meaningful way. Tables and figures should be used where appropriate, and all results must be described explicitly in the text. The Results section should be clear and concise and should highlight differences from previous publications where relevant. Authors should report:

  • actual values and not only general claims,
  • appropriate performance indicators,
  • statistical outcomes when relevant,
  • and clear references to figures and tables.

6.9. Discussion

The Discussion should interpret the results rather than repeat them. It should explain:

  • what the results mean,
  • why the findings occurred,
  • how the findings compare with prior studies,
  • what the limitations or weaknesses are,
  • and what the implications are for research, technology, or practice.

6.10. Conclusion

The Conclusion should directly answer the study objective and present the main contribution of the work. It should not merely repeat the abstract or restate the results without synthesis. Where appropriate, authors should indicate practical implications and future research directions. JEEEMI currently expects the conclusion to include the aim, research findings, and future work.

6.11. Acknowledgment

The Acknowledgment section should recognize individuals, institutions, laboratories, or organizations that contributed to the work but do not meet authorship criteria. Funding support may also be acknowledged here, but formal funding disclosure must also appear in the Declarations section.

7. Declarations

All manuscripts must include a Declarations section before the References. The following subheadings are mandatory; if a statement is not applicable, authors should write “Not applicable” and provide a brief justification where needed.

7.1. Funding

State all sources of funding, including grant number and funding agency, or state that the research received no specific funding.

7.2. Author Contributions

Describe the contribution of each author. JEEEMI recommends using a role-based description such as conceptualization, methodology, software, investigation, formal analysis, validation, writing, supervision, and funding acquisition.

7.3. Data Availability

State where the data can be accessed. Acceptable statements include:

  • publicly available in a repository,
  • available from the corresponding author on reasonable request,
  • restricted due to ethical, privacy, or legal reasons,
  • or not applicable.

7.4. Code Availability

State whether custom code or software is available and where it can be accessed, or explain why code sharing is not applicable.

7.5. Ethical Approval

For studies involving human participants, patients, animals, biological samples, or identifiable personal data, authors must state the name of the approving ethics committee and the approval number. If ethical approval was not required, authors must explain why.

7.6. Consent to Participate

State whether informed consent was obtained from participants or guardians, where applicable.

7.7. Consent for Publication

State whether consent for publication was obtained where identifiable data, images, videos, or case details are included.

7.8. Competing Interests

Authors must declare any financial or non-financial competing interests. If none exist, the statement should read: “The authors declare that they have no competing interests.”

8. Ethics and Integrity Policies

8.1. Originality

The manuscript must be original and must not have been published previously or be under consideration elsewhere. JEEEMI currently states that publishing the same research in more than one journal is strictly prohibited.

8.2. Plagiarism and Similarity

JEEEMI has a strict policy against plagiarism and fraudulent data. All submissions are screened before peer review, and JEEEMI currently states that plagiarism is checked both editorially and with software such as iThenticate.

8.3. Fraudulent or Misleading Data

Fabricated, falsified, manipulated, or misleading data are unacceptable. If concerns arise after publication, authors may be required to provide correction, clarification, or retraction.

8.4. Authorship

All listed authors must have made a substantial contribution to the work, approved the final version, and agreed to submission. The corresponding author is responsible for communication with the journal and for ensuring that all authors approve revisions and final proofs.

8.5. Changes to Authorship

Any request to add, remove, or reorder authors after submission must be justified in writing and approved by all authors and the editorial office.

8.6. Human and Animal Studies

Research involving human participants or animals must comply with applicable ethical standards and institutional or national regulations. Authors should ensure alignment with the journal’s human and animal rights policy.

8.7. Generative AI Use

If generative AI tools were used in manuscript preparation, language editing, coding assistance, figure preparation, or related tasks, authors must disclose this transparently in the manuscript or cover letter, as appropriate. Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of the content. AI tools must not be listed as authors.

9. Reference Style

References must use the IEEE citation style, which JEEEMI already requires. Authors should ensure that:

  • all references cited in the text appear in the reference list,
  • minimum 40 references
  • all references in the reference list are cited in the text,
  • references are accurate and complete,
  • DOI is included where available,
  • excessive self-citation is avoided,
  • and citation manipulation is prohibited.

JEEEMI’s current guideline expects a large share of references from recent journal literature and emphasizes accuracy, DOI checking, and avoidance of excessive self-citation. Authors are encouraged to prioritize relevant, up-to-date, and high-quality references rather than focusing only on mechanical numerical thresholds.

10. Figures, Tables, and Supplementary Files

Figures and tables must be cited in the text in numerical order. Captions should be clear, informative, and complete enough to be understood independently of the main text. Tables should be editable and not inserted as images. Figures should be high quality and readable. Equations should be clearly formatted and variables should be defined when first introduced. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted material where necessary.

11. Peer Review Process

All submitted manuscripts are subject to editorial screening and peer review. JEEEMI currently states that each manuscript is reviewed independently by at least two peer reviewers, and that the editorial decision is based on reviewer recommendations. Manuscripts may be:

  • accepted,
  • returned for minor revision,
  • returned for major revision,
  • or rejected.

Papers that do not meet the journal’s minimum formatting, methodological, ethical, or scope requirements may be rejected before peer review.

12. Revision and Resubmission

Authors must submit revised manuscripts through the online system together with a detailed response to reviewers and editors. JEEEMI currently states that revised manuscripts returned later than three months may be treated as new submissions. When submitting a revision, authors should:

  • provide a point-by-point response letter,
  • indicate all changes clearly,
  • and justify any recommendations not followed.

13. Post-Acceptance Production

After acceptance, manuscripts may undergo copyediting, proofreading, layout editing, and metadata checking before publication. Authors may be asked to review proofs and return corrections within the specified deadline. Only minor corrections are generally allowed at the proof stage. The final published paper must reflect the approved content, authorship, and declarations.

Publication Ethics and Corrections

JEEEMI reserves the right to publish corrections, clarifications, expressions of concern, or retractions when necessary. Authors are expected to cooperate fully if concerns arise after publication regarding authorship, ethics, originality, data integrity, or major errors.
